August AikiWeb Columns Now Available

Seiichi Sugano Sensei Passes Away

The New York Aikikai website has announced, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Seiichi Sugano Shihan (8th dan) on Sunday, August 29, 2010." My condolences go out to all of his friends, family, students, and loved ones.

Seminar: Tsuboi Shihan (7th Dan) in Manila & Cebu Philippines, Sep 2010

Tsuboi Sensei was born in 1941 and began training Aikido in 1961 when he entered Waseda University Aikidokai where Tada Shihan taught. He also trained at Aikikai Hombu Dojo under O-Sensei, the late Kisshomaru Ueshiba Doshu, and other senior instructors. In the past 25 years, Tsuboi Sensei has been training and teaching at Gessoji Dojo, of which Tada Sensei is the chief instructor. He currently ranks 7th dan in Aikido and is the chief instructor of Waseda University Aikidokai. Takeki Tsuboi Shihan is the most senior student of Tada Shihan, 9th dan, Hombu Shihan. September 19-22, 2010 - Manila. September 24-25, 2010 - Cebu. This event is organized by Tada-Juku Manila at the Aikikai Center of the Philippines (ACP) in cooperation with: Aikido Philippines (AikiPhil) Filipino Federation of Aikido (FFA) Pilipinas Aikido Propagation Association (PAPA) Sacred heart Aikido Center (SHAC)

Seminar: Seishiro Endo Shihan to Washington, DC region, 10/30-10/31/2010

Seishiro Endo Shihan 8th Dan Hombu Dojo/Saku Dojo will be returning to the Washington,DC area Oct 30-31 for a weekend seminar to be held at Georgetown Prep. This is his second visit to the area and is once again being hosted by Capital Aikikai (Clyde Takeguchi Shihan). All affiliations are of course welcome. In the inner dojo, fear and anger become the uke. Silence (the hara) becomes nage. The technique is to favor silence, connecting uke to your hara, and allow fear and anger to dissolve into that silence. An ukemi of fear and anger is a falling into dissolution.

Aikido for Seniors, Fredercksburg, VA

Aikido in Fredericksburg has been teaching a "no-fall" Aikido class to senior citizens for 4.5 years. Read the newspaper article on the first group of seniors to test for senior blackbelt here. Kinokawa Aikido Fall Seminar September 18th and 19th with M. Wirth Sensei at the Kinokawa ryu Bryn Mawr Dojo (Bryn Mawr PA, near Philadelphia). Saturday 9a-1p and Sunday 10a-2p (warmups start at 8:30 Saturday and 9:30 Sunday.) This seminar is open to everyone regardless of rank or affiliation. Seminar fees is $80/day.
